German Brands You Need to Know

Since I am always looking for new brands to try, I turned my attention to another European country. I’ve already covered brands from the UK so now it is Deutschland, or more commonly, Germany. All of the mentioned brands are available in the United States or can be shipped here.
Catrice Cosmetics
The “sister brand” of Essence Cosmetics, Catrice Cosmetics was founded in 2004 and has slowly gained recognition here in the United States. The foundation and concealer shade range is ideal for lighter skin tones but not for tan to dark skin tones (they don’t have my shade). The Prime and Fine Nude Glow Primer is one face product I can use as it works with dry skin. The highlighting sticks are often mentioned by fans as some of their favorites.
Most of the products cost less than $15 and can be bought online at Catrice’s website, or at select Ulta stores.
Prime and Fine Primer $7

Essence Cosmetics
Essence has proven itself to be of great quality, on par with other drugstore brands like Wet N’ Wild while having super affordable prices. The brand was founded in 2001 and by 2011, the brand had expanded its reach to the US and won its first award from Allure magazine. Essence is available in select drugstores and has its own section in Ulta; this is a testament to the brand’s popularity.
The highlighters and blushes receive rave reviews due their brilliant colors. The eyebrow kit is perfect for beginners who have a difficult time finding the perfect shape/arch for their eyebrows. With most of the products costing less than or around the price of a Venti coffee from Starbucks, Essence is perfect for any makeup collection.
The Berry Connection $4
Zoeva Cosmetics
An indie brand with a “cult-following”, Zoeva specializes in eyeshadow palettes that should always be in a travel makeup bag. In addition to creating cosmetics, the brand also advocates for women who are affected by domestic abuse and/or cancer.
Zoe Boikou, the CEO and founder of Zoeva, began selling makeup brushes on eBay back in 2008 and now has a full range of products for decent prices. If you choose to splurge on this brand, I recommend trying the eyeshadow palettes. The palettes with more shades are more expensive at $40 but the twelve-shade palettes are $27; I adore the Opulence palette.
Opulence palette $26.50
Which brands have you heard of or have bought from? I absolutely love Essence; I always stop by the display when I’m at Ulta. I like Zoeva though it can get costly and Catrice is good but I wish they had more shades for foundations and concealers. Let me know in the comments which country should be featured next!

Cosmetic Launch Roundup: August 17-31, 2018

No introduction is needed as summer begins its departure and autumn arrives to bring us fallen leaves, candles smelling of apple cinnamon and pumpkin spice, and holidays like Halloween. Let us enjoy the last days of summer with these late August releases.
Maybelline has finally launched their highly anticipated Soda Pop eyeshadow palette. There were rumors floating around that the palette would not be launched until early September but I am thankful that Maybelline moved the release date up. The Soda Pop palette is currently available on Ulta’s website for $14 and should be hitting stores like Walgreens/CVS, Walmart, Rite Aid, and many others within the next week or so (and for a cheaper price).
Soda Pop anyone?

A quick surprise launch: Jcat Beauty served us with a cream foundation in a compact for coverage on the go. Their new Aquasurance Compact Foundation provides a hydrating effect on the skin, minimizes pores and the coverage is buildable. It seems like a great foundation for those with dry skin but the shade range is somewhat disappointing. There are currently eight shades available so proceed with caution for those of fair to medium skin tones. The foundation costs $14 and is available on Jcat’s website.

Black Radiance dropped their summer collection and it is marvelous. It has been awhile since Black Radiance released new products but they exceeded expectations with a liquid highlighter, luminous oil, lip scrub, setting spray, and a lip balm. I love the highlighter, with its golden sheen. Oh and there are 5 new shades of the beautiful lip kits as well.
All of the items are under $9 and are available online at Black Radiance’s website!
Summer Radiance
Tattoo Junkee is giving even more stunning shades for their lip kits. Four new lip kits have been released: Diva (midnight blue), Attitude (beige/nude), Fabulous (bubblegum pink), and Illusion (light pink). The lip kits are available now on Tattoo Junkee’s website and retail for $7.

Rude Cosmetics has given us the news that their Blackjack 21 Collection will be released at the end of the month! For more info on the palettes, check out the first post here. Along with the eyeshadow palettes, Rude Cosmetics has teased their new Sculpting Concealer with an unknown release date.

The shade range is actually quite nice aand diverse compared to some high-end brands.
Sculpting Concealer
Essence Makeup has announced twelve new lipstick shades will be launched the last week of August. The colors range from bright red to dark colors like black. I am actually intrigued by the black lipstick but I am not adventurous enough to try it (*laugh*). I’ll stick my red shades. Stay tuned for updates.
Ah the nudes, brights, and smolders!
Makeup Revolution is teasing another collaboration and it is with American beauty influencer Emily Noel. This will be the first time that the British brand is extending its reach to American influencers, so I can only imagine the pressure on Ms. Noel. Stay tuned for updates as the collaboration will be unveiled this Wednesday August 22.
Sneak Peek
Bad Habit is launching another palette this Thursday August 23. The palette, called Artistry II, is a dupe of the KKW x Mario collaboration palette which retails on the KKW site for $45. Since Bad Habit is known for their affordable dupes of high-end brand palettes, you can expect a much lower price point. The Artistry palette will launch on Thursday on the Hush app.
Artistry II
L.A Girl is getting innovative with their release of the Pro Prep Color Correcting Primers. Each primer has a purpose; green corrects redness, orange helps brighten “dull” skin, pink brightens skin tones, and yellow brightens fair to medium skin tones. The primers cost $9 each and they will be available on the L.A Girl website starting on August 23 but Ulta released the product early on their website for $7.
Color Correct while Priming!
Surprise! Another Jcat Beauty release and it seems they are sticking with their “release three palettes at the same time” trend. The indie brand announced that they would be releasing a highlighting palette called Unicorn Glow (for a magical look), a blush palette entitled Blush Me, Cheeky (suitable for all skin tones) and a contour/highlight palette called Hide & Seek. An official released date has not been given so stay tuned for updates.
Palettes, palettes, and more palettes!

Cosmetic Launch Roundup: August 1-16, 2018

August. “The dog days of summer.” The last month of summer before the leaves begin to fall and we officially welcome Autumn (my favorite season). I’ve never paid much attention to makeup releases during August but then again there have never been so many that have caught my eye. But these first two weeks of August look tempting… Shall we begin?
Essence Makeup has released a highlighting compact called Glow Like a Mermaid! And if that wasn’t good enough, the brand also launched a collection of holographic products.
The line includes a lip gloss (five colors), a highlighting stick, an eyeshadow palette, and an eye pencil (four shades). Each item is under $7 and will be available at Ulta soon.

Nyx Cosmetics has released so many lip products this summer that it was hard to keep track but I managed (barely). For their new lip glosses, Nyx took a darker turn and has launched the limited edition Midnight Chaos. Featuring twelve shades that range from dark blues, purples and black to lighter shades like a shimmery purple. Price point? $9 each.

Face Candy has been relatively quiet and hasn’t released any eyeshadow palettes since the Atlantis palette; gorgeous palette filled with blues and greens reminiscent of the ocean. Now imagine the surprised and happy reactions from Shop Hush app fans when Face Candy announced their new palette featuring 16 shades.

Disco Fever
Disco Fever delivers on its namesake; the shimmer shades remind me of the discotheques and the disco balls glistening everywhere. Comprised of four matte shades and twelve shimmers, dare I say that this palette is geared towards shimmer shade lovers?
This palette will be launched on Thursday, August 2 on the Hush app.

Beauty Bakerie is gearing up to release their new Milk and Honey palette and brush on August 1st. The new product is a collaboration exclusive between Beauty Bakerie and Riley Rose; as such, this highlighting palette will be available at Riley Rose locations and at Beauty Bakerie’s site at a later time.

Makeup Revolution has done four collaborations so far: Sophdoesnails, Makeupbytammi, Carmimua, and as of last week, Kisu. Well, it seems the brand has no plans of slowing down their collabs because they released a teaser image on Instagram featuring British Youtuber Imogen Hudson. Fans of both Makeup Rev and Imogen are eagerly anticipating the new palette (as am I).
The palette and the reveal video will be released August 1st.

*Update: I stayed up until 5:30am EST and Makeup Revolution released everything half an hour early! I am so proud of Imogen and the TWO beautiful palettes she created. One of the palettes is an eyeshadow palette and the other is a highlight/contour product. Both are available on Makeup Rev’s site and are $15 each.

Jcat Beauty has been teasing a new product but won’t disclose any details other than images of the product swatches. I’m assuming that it is a new concealer. The shade range is disappointing but I realize that Jcat is a smaller brand so I’m not “hating” too much. A launch date has not been given but I will update this article when more details are released.
Mystery product
Essence Makeup is included in this section too because the brand announced three new eyeshadow palettes but have not given a release date. The palettes are simple (in a good way) with two palettes giving neutral shades while the other gives off an ethereal vibe with its bright colors. As soon as the palettes are launched, I’ll post an update.
Rude Cosmetics has cute themes and packaging for their palettes that are outside the box (which I love). It should come as no surprise that this indie brand is serving us with some sass and Clueless vibes in a palette called Whatever.

Ooh the shades

Can we take a moment to appreciate these colors? This palette is perfect for the last hurrah of the summer. The purple shades are gorgeous… You know what, the whole palette is gorgeous so we’ll leave it at that! I’ll keep you updated on the price and release date.

I have to admit that August is shaping up to be a good month for makeup addicts. Indie brands are coming out of the shadows to give us unique and refreshing takes on eyeshadows while the bigger brands are releasing their own bestsellers. Everyone loves to save money, whether it’s on everyday purchases or textbooks (for my fellow students). Some of these inexpensive brands can be found in drugstores such Walgreens and Rite Aid while others are in beauty shops like Sephora and Ulta.
