Holiday Collections of 2018 (Part 3)

I’m back with the third and last holiday collection post! I will say that it has been strenuous to compile pictures, prices, and verify that everything is correct before posting each article but it has been worth it. I will be compiling everything together so if you liked this mini series, share with your friends, family, whoever likes makeup.

Exclusivity, Begone!

I have shared my admiration for Marlena Stell, OG beauty youtuber/influencer and CEO of Makeup Geek. She recently held a pop-up shop in New York City for her upcoming clothing line Marste (combining the first three letters of her first and last names) and the lucky people who visited the shop were treated to a first look at the Marste x Makeup Geek palettes. Today (October 17) Makeup Geek announced that the once exclusive palettes are now available for everyone and are available on the Makeup Geek website!!!

Before I break down my first impressions, let’s talk pricing. There are 9 palettes, each containing 9 pans. The palettes are $35 each. Some of you may be thrown off by that price but allow me to explain. All of the Makeup Geek products are manufactured in the US, meaning that the production costs are high and Marlena has to find a way to get a ROI (Return On Investment). Considering most of the single eyeshadows are $6 a pan, you are actually saving $10 by purchasing any of the new palettes. Score! Am I right?

Love Story

Alright, let’s talk colors. All 9 palettes are gorgeous, with themes that match the shades. The shades included in each palette were (and still are) originally sold as individual pans; Marlena simply put together the color schemes and gave each palette the best name to describe its theme.

Based on first impressions, I’d have to say that the Flourishing, Reflection, Passion, and Bloom are my favorites based on aesthetics (the shades) alone. I love the earthy tones of Flourishing, adore the blues mingling with the neutrals in Reflection, feel the seductive vibes from Passion, and those purples in Bloom are so stunning. Looks like these will be on my Christmas list. Well, if they don’t sell out that it is!

When You Can’t Keep Up

Whew! If you read the last Cosmetic Launch Roundup, I explained that I would be covering only the first week of September due to the few actual launches that occurred. This is a sort of follow up/spin-off of the regular Roundups so please bear with me. I’m trying to keep up but whew. There have several this week and it’s only Thursday… Anyway, let’s dive in!

Nyx Cosmetics surprised fans with a special collection called Shine+Slay, containing three products. The Brush on Bling Metallic Brow Gel is available in three shades: Ooo Wee (Pink), Shmoney (Gold), and Space Shoes (Silver). The brow gels are $8.50 each.

Brush On Bling
The second product, Duo Chromatic Illuminating Palette, is a highlighting palette with a color scheme that could be described as mythical. The palette costs $25 so if you like a colorful highlight, take a chance with the palette.
The last product in the collection is the Sheen Spirit Eye & Face Gloss. Admittedly I don’t understand this concept but it appears to be a highlighter and a sort of eyeshadow topper thing. I bet you’re intrigued so you can grab these glosses for $8.50 each. The collection is available on Nyx’s website.
Sheen Spirit
Makeup Geek released their Pumpkin Spice palette and this is definitely for fans of warm-toned palettes. The trick to this release lies in the fact that the Pumpkin Spice palette has been released before but has been upgraded for this year’s launch by two new and exclusive shades. The new shades are called Dreamsicle (matte peach) and Jack-O-Lantern (shimmery orange). If you get excited anything autumn-related, you can grab the palette for $35 (sale price) on Makeup Geek’s website.
Ready for Fall?
L.A Girl’s newest product is stain-resistant and smudge-proof. The Shockwave Neon Liners serve as both a lip liner and an eyeliner for colorful looks. There are 10 shades spanning almost every color in the rainbow (where’s orange?) plus a classic black liner. Best of all, each liner only costs $5 and are available on L.A Girl’s website and will launch in CVS stores soon.
RYGBIV + Black!
Bad Habit has released two palettes in their Luxe series, which are Pat McGrath dupes, and the third arrived on the Hush App on September 6. Cult Mystere is a dupe of the Mothership 1-Subliminal palette but Bad Habit claims that the inspiration for the palette came from Japanese culture. Whether you believe it’s a dupe or not, Mystere is available on the Hush app for $24.
Jcat Beauty released their face palettes on August 23 but aren’t slowing down as the brand announced 3 new eyeshadow palettes. Only the palette names have been exposed but Jcat asked their Instagram fans to guess the color scheme of each palette based on the names; I’m going to ask you to do the same in the comment section
Mysterious palettes
The three palettes are called Secret Paradise, Majestic Galaxy, and Fantasy Dreamland. Each palette contains 21 shades and I’m predicting the palettes will cost $16. Stay tuned for updates!
Milani hasn’t released anything since their highly-anticipated palettes back in July. We should have known that they were planning fantabulous products to be released during the holidays! Milani is teasing their new Halloween collection on Twitter and Instagram but in black/white pictures, meaning I don’t know if the swatches are for new lip product or eyeshadow toppers. Rest assured I will give an update when the product details are released but for now, look at the pictures and tell me your guess in the comment section!
I don’t even want to guess what this is
Colourpop Cosmetics. This brand never stops churning out new products. Last week it was the Back to School collection, the week before Jelly Eyeshadows. Launching tomorrow (September 7) is another collaboration with beauty Youtuber MakeupShayla in celebration of Virgo season and Shayla’s birthday! The collection is comprised of a lip bundle containing 3 shades (1 gloss, 2 mattes) and a makeup bag. Check out the collaboration on Colourpop’s website when it drops tomorrow at 10am PST.
Slay Day bundle

Makeup Revolution released their expanded Conceal and Define product line on Wednesday September 5 but have already begun teasing another palette. Some fans believe the pictured shades are for the annual Advent Calendar and holiday collection. We’ll have a short time to wait if Makeup Revolution sticks to their Wednesday launches.
New palette?
E.l.f Cosmetics is the most affordable brand to be mentioned on The Trendy Wallet (hello $2 eye primer!). I’m pleased to announce that the brand is finally giving us something new: the Opposites Attract eyeshadow palette. Opposites Attract has 18 shades with 9 being warm-toned, 9 cool-toned. You can grab one of these beauties on E.l.f’s website for $14.
Warm vs Cool tones

Did you get all of that? I mean, all of these launches, teasers, and upcoming holiday collections are just getting started and I’m already exhausted. Anyway, drop a comment with your guesses about the Jcat palettes or the Milani teaser. Check out The Trendy Wallet on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, or Twitter and subscribe for updates.

Cosmetic Launch Roundup: September 1-6, 2018

Curling up with a book as rain pelts the window, a fire roaring in the fireplace, and an apple cinnamon candle burning in the background, the smell permeating through the room. Autumn is right around the corner, meaning colder weather (insert crying face emoji here). However, there are many things to look forward to, such as the “Pumpkin Spice Latte” from Starbucks or Halloween.
Prepare to spice up the season with a few colors that are perfect for the changes in nature; plum, burgundy, grey, forest/olive greens, and more. While spring/summer exuded warm tone palettes and highlighters, autumn presents the chance to tone it down somewhat with more earthy and subdued tones.
With an image of all that autumn brings, here are the releases for the first two weeks of September.

Makeup Geek intends to fully embrace autumn with their gorgeous new eyeshadows. Four splendid shades, each with a dynamic pop to them. Warm copper, tantalizing teal, soft beige, and a smoky brown round out the newest shades to the realm of Makeup Geek’s shadows (there are over 135 shades total). Retailing for $6 each, these shadows are affordable and a staple in any magnetic palette you customize. Available at Makeup Geek’s website.

BH Cosmetics launched their new White Marble brush set on August 29th and they are stunning! If you are an avid watcher of home improvement shows and love the idea of marble countertops, you understand what the brushes look like. BH Cosmetics is known for bringing their A-game with their brush sets and the White Marble set is no different. There are nine brushes along with the angled brush holder; four face brushes and five eye brushes. The set costs $25 and is only available online.

Colourpop Cosmetics knows how to kick off the school year with pizzazz. Announcing their Back to School collection, Colourpop also donated backpacks and school supplies to a women and children’s shelter in Los Angeles. The collection launched on Thursday Aug 30th during the *Labor Day sale* and includes:

Study Buddy super shock eyeshadow set ($25), Knew Idea lippie stix kit ($25), Back @ It and Extra Attention ultra-matte lip kit ($20 each), OTW ultra-metallic lip set ($20). You also purchase the entire collection for $110. (*All listed prices are the discounted prices during the sale*)

If something catches your eye, quickly snatch it up on Colourpop’s website; it’s almost guaranteed that these products will sell out within a few days.

Back to School/Work

Barry M goes mythological with their new Unicorn Primer Drops! The new primer contains all-natural ingredients including acai berries. The drops appear pink as you apply them but blends flawlessly into the skin, with brightening, hydrating, and detoxifying effects for the skin. The primer is available on Barry M’s website and retail for $10.40 USD.

Geek Chic Cosmetics is switching things up with Star Jellies. These new lip glosses are available in 4 shades with added moisturizer ingredients (rosehip oil and pomegranate seed oil). Best of all, these new glosses will set you back only $8 for each shade! Only available online.

Jcat Beauty expanded two of their popular products. The Pris-Metal Chrome Eye Mousses gained 18 more shades, with even more pigment and vivid color range. These mousses retail for $6 each.
Then Jcat expressed more creativity with the three new shades of the You Glow Girl baked highlighters. Moon and Back is a light bronze, Mermaid Skin is a muted green, and Unicorn fave is a bubblegum pink. Each baked highlighter is $9.

Catrice Cosmetics is finally releasing more shades of their best selling HD Liquid Coverage Foundation. The foundation range had been lacking, with 4 shades catering to fair skin tones. Many fans of the brand with tan to deep skin tones are excitedly counting down the days (myself included). The foundation retails for $11 and the new shades make their debut on September 4!

An original, light shade
Makeup Revolution is launching two new products! The best-selling Conceal & Define concealer is getting a reboot. The brand announced via Twitter on August 28th that they would be releasing the Super-Size version of the concealer due to popular demand.

As if that wasn’t enough to get fans hyped for autumn, MUR announced their Full Coverage Conceal & Define foundation. Fans are understandably excited as Makeup Revolution has had success with their Fast Base foundation sticks so the hype surrounding this launch is palpable. Mark your calendars for September 5th!

Flower Beauty seeks to transport us into the galaxy with their new Supernova Celestial Skin Elixir. This vegan product helps brighten, smooth, prime, and hydrate the skin while giving ethereal vibes. For those that like illuminating primers, this is a product to anticipate. The elixir will officially launch on September 4th on Flower Beauty’s website but it is already online at Ulta for $16.

So many products in the first few days of September but this roundup covers only the first week. There will be another launch article for the second week of September before we go back to the original format used for the cosmetic launch roundups.
